Part 1:

I pity for Hannah Baker not because of committing suicide but tasting the bitterness of betrayal from the people she trusted most. The recorded tapes where just manifestation of the miserable life she experienced especially when people around her started to deceive and overshadow with wrong speculations. They earned her trust and ended up turning against her. I believe Hannah made the recordings not to accuse but to show how these thirteen people in one way or another, contributed to the burden she felt. Maybe, it was a wrong decision to end up her life that way, she could have been stronger other than letting herself affected with others’ attitude towards her.

Clay Jensen, though received the recordings, obtained positive statements from Hannah. He played to be her one and only hope. I owe him, because he know that somehow he failed to pull Hannah from drowning on the ocean of hopelessness. He thought of loving Hannah back and dreaming of having her back in his life.

I, once read an article says that men are more likely to commit suicide because they keep their feelings just within themselves unlike girls. Men have lesser outlet to dispense their sentiments. I remember one of my favourite movie, Three Idiots. Joy Lobo is an engineering student who committed suicide after knowing that he can’t graduate just because of a nonsense reason. Ranchoddas said, “The post mortem reported that the cause of death is the intense pressure in the windpipe resulting in choking. All thought that the pressure on the jugular killed him, but what about the mental pressure for the last four years? That’s missing in the report... it isn’t suicide. It’s a murder!” I discern that suicide, in all forms is caused by one factor and that is pressure. These people feel that no one could pull them up and sees no hope. In Hannah’s case, it was the feeling of isolation and rejection. That people around her introduce themselves as friend yet stabs her at the back. In connection, I considered this story as a great message to ponder that whenever I feel alone or out-of-the-way, or if there’s no one can help to pull myself up, I always have my Lord to help and strengthen me.

In all these things, I still speculate why people like Clay Jensen, Alex Standall, Jessica Davis, Courtney Crimsen, Bryce Walker and etc. unified to pull Hannah down. What is in her that other’s find as intimidating? beauty? skills? Who knows? Hannah on her recording said that if the one holding the tapes will not give it to the next person on the list, another set of tapes will be produced. Does it signify that there’s someone behind this? If yes, how is he/she related to Hannah and her death?

I think that some people mentioned on Hannah’s suicide tapes will feel guilty on what they did to Hannah and some others will continue to act the same way. It could be that Hannah’s loved ones will seek retaliation on her suicide that ending up with these thirteen different people grieve. (check the movie, Death Bell)
